LANDSCAPE
Australia is as much a country of sky as it is of land. The flatness of the terrain across the continent lends the sky a vast expanse of infinite blue. Low humidity in many parts of arid Australia paired with low pollution create the most incredible colour gradient sunset skies.
The Northern Territory is an isolated rectangle of desert plain in the centre of the country. We had the honour to take a road trip from Alice Springs to Uluru, 600 kilometres through the Tjoritja / West MacDonnell Ranges, Wattarka / Kings Canyon, and Kwartatuma / Ormiston Gorge. On this trip we made paintings at Corobboree Rock and Trephina Gorge. We also made two sets of paintings at Uluru, the Red Centre, a set from Kantju Gorge and a set from Uluru at sunrise.
The clear skies and low humidity way down south in Tasmania make for intense sunshine. Even in Winter the sun is capable of producing some really deep blues from our cyanotype. The strong light paired with the endless incredible locations at which to explore, paint and capture sunlight makes Tassie an ideal place for us to stay and work.
