Rockpools and Lichen. Glassilaun Beach // Single Monoprint
Rockpools and Lichen. Glassilaun Beach // Single Monoprint
Our Rockpools and Lichen CHROMA.SCAPE is a portrait of the colours of Glassilaun Beach. The lichen (ramalina farinacea) that grows on the rocks there is a soft lemony-mint colour and the rocks themselves hold the most incredible spectrum of hues from soft pinks within the rockpools to rich purples and blue blacks higher up on the weather beaten rockfaces. The dark blue too represents the skies that often roll in over Mweelrea and Letter Gesh, the mountains that loom above this beautiful strip of sand on the Irish West coast.
This was the second print we made in the series. The choice to use four colours rather than three on a monoprint of this size challenged our abilities and knowledge of blending. There were many trials and much experimenting to get it right and we are so happy with the result; a striking portrait of a Connemara coastline.

The handprinted nature of monoprints means that they vary slightly from piece to piece. To the untrained eye the difference is insignificant. The image above is of one finished piece and may be a tiny bit different to the one you purchase.
